Oxfordshire County Council Opposes HS2

by Jeremy on 16-Aug-2011

We were pleased to learn two days ago that Oxfordshire County Council has announced that it opposes HS2. Councillor Rodney Rose, OCCs Cabinet Member for Transport said that, “Although the proposed route only clips the northern extremity of Oxfordshire at Finmere it is still legitimate for the county council to have a view on this proposal. Oxfordshire County Council is not opposed on environmental grounds – however  we are deeply concerned about the business case for HS2. We cannot but reflect on what we could do with just a fraction of £32 billion to invest in local transport infrastructure”. OCC is the fourth county council to join the 51m group, a collaboration of county and district councils who oppose the HS2 plan.
