VoxOpp Active on Compensation and Mitigation

by Jeremy on 13-Mar-2012

In the past week VoxOpp has been exceptionally busy, arranging and taking part in two large events, a grass roots workshop and a large open meeting.

The first, on Saturday third March, took the form of a workshop which VoxOpp organised to gather views, concerns and suggestions for solutions on compensation issues from the grass roots to be presented to the newly formed HS2 Compensation and Mitigation Forum of MPs. Ten action groups, including VoxOpp, attended the workshop in Bicester having previously supplied details of their concerns and views regarding compensation for HS2. Those present represented action groups which covered a wide range of circumstances and distance from central London all the way up to Staffordshire and the output from the workshop displayed a wide, diverse range of concerns. The workshop decided that these would be forwarded to AGAHST for ratification and forwarding on to the MPs Compensation and Mitigation Forum.

The second event took place on Friday ninth of March when a meeting was held in the Town Hall, Brackley. Guest speakers included Tony Baldry (MP for North Oxfordshire), Andrea Leadsom (MP for South Northants), Barry wood (leader of the Cherwell district Council), Kathryn Fulljames (also on the Cherwell district Council and in addition on Oxfordshire County Council) and Paul Elliot (of estate agents Michael Graham). Some 150 people from north-east Oxfordshire, South Northants and Buckinghamshire attended the event and were brought up-to-date on a variety of matters including the progress of the HS2 project, the legal processes and how they could be used, the lack of credible compensation available and the lack of clarity regarding mitigation and even the exact route of the line. The second half of the meeting was an open question time on the subjects discussed. Many strongly felt views were expressed and many questions asked over the whole range of subjects presented.

Output from both the Workshop and the Town Hall meeting will be added to the VoxOpp website as soon as the final versions are available.
